2020 Big Broadcast Survey (BBS) Reports Now Available

Josh Stinehour | September 10, 2020

The 2020 Big Broadcast Survey Reports are now available.

2020 is the 12th consecutive year Devoncroft Partners has conducted the Big Broadcast Survey (BBS), the largest annual demand-side study of the global broadcast and media technology sector.  Each year we update the suppliers, product categories, and market trends profiled based on feedback from technology vendors, media companies, and investors.

Unique circumstances were introduced into the 2020 data collection efforts by the global business disruption from the COVID pandemic.  We paused survey collection efforts in early March to modify certain questions to better understand how the business disruption was impacting technology end-user priorities.  Since responses were roughly evenly split before vs. after the disruption, the 2020 BBS Reports illustrate both the nature and the magnitude of several developments in the global media technology sector stemming from COVID.

In aggregate, several thousand global technology professionals participated in the BBS during 2020, providing candid feedback on budgets, trends, technology deployments, and individual technology suppliers.  Again, how these opinions changed in the context of the market disruption of 2020 is illuminating.

As with past years, we will publish selected highlights from this year’s BBS reports on the Devoncroft website.  These articles are posted on a semi-regular basis, so please check back often.  To receive posts when published, please enter register with your email in the box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

For those parties interested in additional information on the full 2020 BBS reports, please call or email us.

Three types of 2020 BBS reports are available:

  • 2020 BBS Global Brand Reports: provide deep insight into how each more than 100 broadcast technology suppliers (see full list below) are perceived by market participants, along with comprehensive benchmarking of broadcast technology vendors on a wide variety of metrics
  • 2020 BBS Product Reports: provide detailed information from buyers, specifiers, and users of broadcast technology products in 30 separate categories (see full list below)
  • 2020 BBS Global Market Report: provides detailed information about industry trends, major projects being planned, current and future plant infrastructure, broadcast technology budgets, and planned deployment of new technologies including UHD/4K, Cloud-based services, and IP-based technology infrastructure
